Assistance Initiatives

Caregiver Network:
Develop a nationwide network of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and counselors who are well versed in the proper treatment of steroid abuse, and who are available for referral when the need arises. Information regarding this network will be provided directly to teachers, coaches, trainers, and school nurses, in addition to publication on the Foundation's Web site for dissemination to parents and adolescents.

Standard Protocol:
Work with the medical community to develop a standard protocol for treating steroid abuse. This protocol would be provided to medical professionals unfamiliar with steroid abuse and withdrawal by medical professionals well versed in that area. This initiative will expand the number of caregivers who can safely and effectively treat steroid abuse cases.

Personal Contact Program:
Develop a program requiring a trained Foundation member to personally speak with anyone who contacts the Foundation regarding an adolescent who is abusing, or who is suspected of abusing steroids within 24 hours of the initial contact. If the contact regards a young person who is suicidal or has lost their life due to steroids, the contact will be made by Frank or Brenda Marrero.
